The Friends sponsor a series of activities throughout the year, both open to the public and several devoted for our members. Examples of public events include talks held at the Winchester library on the “Birds of Winter Pond” and “What Lives Under the Ice”. Member only events include a spring icebreaker, a summer social, and a fall membership meeting. Other activities include sponsoring a booth at the Winchester Town Day and an annual “cleanup day devoted to clearing the public landing area. The Friends also offer their own expertise as speakers to other local groups with an interest in ecology issues and programs in their own areas of interest. The Friends are members of Sustainable Winchester and the Mystic Valley Watershed Association.

The Friends welcome ALL those interested in the value of places such as Winter Pond. The Woodside Road access point offers a bulletin board with up-to-date information on seasonal activities and tips for overall pond health. The Margie Lamar memorial bench offers relaxation and one may walk parts of the pond shoreline to observe wildlife which frequently include Mallard duck and Mute swan families, Cormorants, Osprey, Red Tail hawk, Kingfishers, Fox and many others. Boaters can enter here and are urged to be sure their boats are washed clean of possibly invasive plants or water life etc. from other lakes or ponds. In wintertime, parking is convenient for recreational skaters, figure skaters and ad hoc hockey teams!
